General Tips for BMCC Students transition to Distance Learning

  • Communicate early and often with your professors -If you are struggling, lack access to resources, or feel overwhelmed, please communicate that to your professor.

  • Social distance doesn't mean social isolation - Stay connected. Talk to your friends and family. Join the Weekly UMLA Virtual Meetup. Go for short walks or get exercise indoors, and communicate regularly with the people you care about.

  • DO NOT DROP YOUR CLASSES! - Unless its absolutely necessary to drop, stay in your classes. For the most part, your professors will work with you as long you communicate your issues.

  • Keep a schedule - Taking classes from home doesn't give you the right to slack off. Keep a schedule, stay organized, and stay on top of your assignments. Treat your computer/tablet/phone like an office, and complete your work on time. Block out time for studying, and do your best to remove any distractions.

  • Take advantage of Online Tutoring! - Online tutoring is in full effect, use it!

  • Check in on your peers/classmates - It takes very little to reach out your peers/ classmates, but it means A LOT! Check in on your classmates and fellow students, keep each other on track, and work together in this time of challenge and change.
